Diabetic retinopathy is the most frequent complication in diabetes and a feared cause of blindness for most patients. To meet this challenge, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes Eye Complications Study Group (EASDec) was formed in 1990. Since then, annual meetings have been held by dedicated European groups of ophthalmologist, diabetologists and basic scientists.
The meeting of 2021 in Odense, Denmark, will be the 31st annual meeting and the first to be hosted in Odense to celebrate the strong effort of diabetic eye screening and treatment in the interdisciplinary environment at Steno Diabetes Center Odense, Odense University Hospital and University of Southern Denmark. We expect attendees in the fields of ophthalmology, diabetology, basic science, epidemiology and health care technology.
The meeting will include, but not be limited to, six oral sessions, one poster session with a variety of different topics, and three key note lectures.
The EASDec meeting is a very friendly forum for younger researchers and, based on the experience from previous meetings, we expect many students and younger scientists along with numerous internationally, renowned experts within the field.
